Nagorno-Karabakh is part of Azerbaijan, but its population is majority Armenian. As the Soviet Union saw increasing tensions in its constituent republics in the 1980s, Nagorno-Karabakh voted to become part of Armenia - sparking a war that stopped with a ceasefire in 1994. Since then, Nagorno-Karabakh has remained part of Azerbaijan but is controlled by separatist ethnic Armenians backed by the Armenian government. Until recently, negotiations mediated by international powers had failed to deliver a peace agreement. Armenia is majority Christian while Azerbaijan is majority Muslim. Turkey has close ties to Azerbaijan, while Russia is allied with Armenia - although it also has good relations with Azerbaijan.                                “ My Hope ” March is coming ! It will be spring once again, a time for new life, new understanding.  It will be yet another opportunity to come together as people of planet Earth to explore our relationship with our planet and with one another. Yet, I am really confused about what is happening in our world. I am witnessing something that has me feeling sad, a little frustrated as a young person and sometimes even a little angry. I am seeing the death of humanity! I am questioning all that we are as human beings and I am desperately looking for signs that humanity still exists.  I am seeking evidence that there is hope for us as a species, as a people, as gift to the world.
